Today, after my work search stuff,
I caught up on a couple days of diary writing that I’d fallen behind on. And I
cooked a couple of the recipes that are on my diet for the day. The spaghetti squash turned out great, but
the meatballs didn’t work out so well. I
made them small, so they were more like mini-meatballs but apparently, I didn’t
reduce the cooking time enough. They burned on the bottom and were so dry and
hard they should be called meatrocks. Right now, I’m trying
to stew them in a tomato sauce-chicken broth mix to see if they can be saved.
But I have my doubts.

My sad meatballs |
My cousin Eric from
Baltimore came to see me today! He got a cheap fare on the Megabus which sounds
like a great way to go. Free wifi the whole way, the trip only takes three
hours and it’s $65 round trip. I met him in Manhattan at 7th Av
& 28th St, then we caught the subway back to the apartment in
Brooklyn, rested a while and then headed out to explore the city.

We
walked down Vanderbilt Ave and stopped at a place called the Tin Kettle to
enjoy the house libation, the Tin Kettle lager. Yummy, but not on my
diet. Then we walked past the Barclays
center and came back up Flatbush, then stopped at Morgan’s BBQ to people-watch
on the patio and enjoy $5 beers and $2 tacos—we split one of each: pulled pork,
pork belly and beef—all of which were excellent, and definitely NOT on my diet.

Yay beer! |

Tasty tacos here folks! |
A short while later, we walked across the
street to Taro Sushi where we had dinner—edamame, fatty tuna and semi-fatty
tuna, salmon and a couple rolls. I skipped most of the rice, but had a little rice
wine. So essentially, my diet was totally blown to hell. And I was a little bit
tipsy.

It's so cool, it doesn't need a sign in English. |
However, we weren’t
done yet. We stopped by a couple stores
on the way back to the apartment to get the provisions we needed to make ginger
beer, which Eric has done before. We
started boiling it when I suddenly realized I needed to go to bed. I think
maybe it was ten o’clock. Another good day done.
