40 Days in Brooklyn: The Wedding, Part Deaux

Day 29 - Tues, Oct 18th

Since Chris and Lawrence bumped back their flight back to Thursday, they decided not to deal with the hassle of checking out of the hotel and taking their luggage with them to City Hall. Instead, they moved the wedding to Wednesday, so Tuesday was a pretty low-key day for me.

I spent most of the day emailing connections and searching for freelance opportunities. Then Chris and Lawrence came to the apartment at 4-ish, moved back into the guest room and we made dinner together. Afterward, we went shopping at Atlantic-Barkley Center, then on the way back, bought a couple of giant doughnuts at The Doughnut Plant. Once home, we watched the pilot of American Horror Story which I will now be binge watching for the next few weeks.

Day 30 - Wed Oct 19th, aka Wedding Day

In the morning, we all went back to City Hall. The line was much shorter and the wait wasn't bad at all.

Next verse! Same as the first!

The wait

I recorded the ceremony and posted it to Facebook but it's too big to post here.  Suffice it to say it was deeply moving. And above all, official.

The anniversary is now October 17th-19th.
Every year, it must be a 3-day celebration.
After the ceremony, we went to Balthazar for brunch, which we chose from Google Maps based solely on its proximity to City Hall. But what a great choice it was—a beautiful french patisserie with delicious food, great coffee and bountiful mimosas and Bellinis.

This is the photo they were taking in the video above.

Plus, we had dessert with our breakfast. And who wouldn't like that?

Yum!
After brunch, we took a walk through Manhattan, stopping at interesting stores whenever we saw them. Here's one where we just took photos in their cool space.

The contemplative Lawrence

I call it "The Moment Before the Attack of the Amber Orbs."

I also had this photo of me taken beside a sign we saw on the street. When I talked to my dad after I'd posted it, he said my mother was very disappointed in me. It's amazing how my parents can still play the "disappointed card" at my age. Sheesh.

Shortly thereafter, I posted an apology and covered up the bad word.

Mmm, I got in trouble.
On the way back to Brooklyn as we were crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, a photographer stopped Chris and Lawrence and asked to take their picture. He had an unbelievable lens on his camera and he really knew what he was doing. He also had a photo printer there that made amazing prints for $10 each. But on this occasion, they were absolutely priceless.

Then it was back to the apartment for champagne and naps and to prepare to see Falsettos on Broadway later that night.

Falsettos is a revival of a show that first appeared off Broadway in 1981. Well, the first act did, anyway. The second act appeared in 1990. And both acts were put together to form one Broadway musical in 1992.

An impressive cast
The 2016 version stars three Tony winners/nominees—Christian Borle (who you non-theater goers may recognize from the tv series Smash!) Andrew Rannells (who you might recognize from the HBO series Girls and the old NBC series The New Normal) and Stephanie J Block (who toured as Elphelba in Wicked and was nominated for a Tony in Drood.)

When we were checking out new shows to see, Falsettos seemed like a fun little romp in the park. It was about a Jewish man who falls in love with another man and how his wife and son react. The first song is "Four Jews in a Room Bitching." We thought it would be hilarious. And it sort of was, until the second act.

That's when the lover gets Aids and the entire second act takes place in his hospital room, which was entirely too close to home considering that Chris had been through that with his previous spouse Doug. So, in essence, it was quite possibly the absolute worst choice of shows for Chris and Lawrence's wedding day.

So bad that afterwards, all we could do was laugh.

And laugh.

And laugh.

My stomach muscles ached for days.
